PlayStation’s next God of War adventure has been pushed back by three months. God of War: Laufey is now scheduled to launch on 20 May 2027, rather than 16 February.

Santa Monica Studio confirmed the change on 4 November, explaining that the extra time will allow the team to give the game some additional polish. The studio did not point to a specific development issue, and has not announced any other changes to the release plan.

A different perspective on the God of War world

Unlike the recent Norse entries led by Kratos, God of War: Laufey puts Faye at the centre of the adventure. That makes it a notable new direction for one of PlayStation’s biggest franchises, even before we get a proper look at how the game plays.

The delay means players will have to wait a little longer to find out how this chapter fits into the wider God of War story. For now, the new date is the key detail: 20 May 2027.

Three more months of waiting

A three-month delay is disappointing, particularly for fans who had circled February on the calendar. Still, Santa Monica Studio says the additional development time is intended to help the team deliver the experience it wants. There is no indication in the announcement that the game has been pushed beyond May.

We’ll keep an eye on the studio for further updates, including a closer look at gameplay and what players can expect from Faye’s story.
